Alejandra Perez, MD
Director, Breast Cancer Centers

Alejandra Perez

Dr. Perez acquired her medical degree at the Health Science Institute in Colombia, graduating among the top 10 in her class. She completed her training in internal medicine at Danbury Hospital, an affiliate of Yale University School of Medicine. After completing her residency, she was appointed as Chief Resident in the ambulatory care setting. She also completed her hematology and oncology fellowship training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center in New York.

Dr. Perez is board certified in internal medicine, hematology and oncology. She is Director of the Breast Cancer Centers at Memorial Cancer Institute where she is primary investigator on numerous clinical trials addressing the prevention and treatment of breast cancer. Her philosophy of care is to treat the individual, completely, including body, mind and spirit with focus on expert disease management whether intent is toward cure, surveillance or control of the breast cancer.

Aruna Mani, MD

Aruna Mani

Dr. Mani graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2 years from the University of Akron with a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences, and received her M.D. from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. She did her residency in Internal Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio.  She then did her Medical Oncology Fellowship and NIH-funded T32 Research Fellowship at James Cancer Hospital of Ohio State University.  Dr. Mani is board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. She is published in Breast Cancer Research and Treatment, The Journal of Clinical Oncology, Community Oncology, Journal of Immunology and the International Journal of Hematology.  She is passionate about dietary intervention in overall health.

Carmen Calfa, MD

Carmen Calfa

Dr. Calfa, a board-certified oncologist, was born and raised in Romania. She received a medical degree at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Targu-Mures, Romania, graduating among the top 10 in her class. Upon graduation, she joined the university as a clinical Instructor in epidemiology and public health. During this time, she entered residency in hematology, immunology and biochemistry and became nationally board certified in January 2000. She went on to complete her internal medicine training at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in 2004 and continued as a research fellow, working in the development of new targeted therapies for breast cancer. Dr. Calfa completed her hematology/oncology training in 2008, graduating from the University of Miami. She is board certified in internal medicine and a member of American Society of Clinical Oncology and American Society of Hematology.

Maricer Escalon, MD

Maricer Escalon

Dr. Escalon completed her Fellowship in Hematologic Oncology at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas in 2005 and her Residency in Internal Medicine was completed at University of Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital, Florida in 2002.

She is board certified by the American Board of Medical Oncology, the American Board of Hematology and the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Escalon took an interesting route to join our team. For five years she took a teaching role, treating patients with Malignant Hematological diseases. She developed a special interest in treating young women, particularly those who were pregnant when diagnosed. Subsequently, she decided to dedicate her career exclusively to the field of breast cancer.
